There's me & Kim loving our time in Turkey.

Howdy!  I’m Jessica, and I’m from Houston, but this blog is all about my move to Istanbul, Turkey.  WOW, Istanbul!

I’m sure some of you are thinking, “Really, Jess, couldn’t you have just dyed your hair or something? Do you really have to move halfway across the world?”

This idea starting sneaking into my head late last fall.  I have this great life in Houston, with my wonderful family, with fun and caring friends, with a good, mission-driven job, and I’m part of organizations I’m passionate about.

So, um…what?

I started to realize that I was lacking in the “grand adventure” department.  I went a whole hour and a half away to college.  Did my graduate degree in Houston.  Have traveled to some great places – but those were short trips.  I’ve not been married, not had children.  I don’t feel at all that my life is lacking, but I do feel that there’s so much out there to experience.

So, here I go.  I’m half excited, half terrified.  I leave in 3 months.  I think there’s going to be some stress, some squeals, and alot of tears that will precede me getting on that plane.  But I welcome it all with open arms.  Join me.

Thank you, Serhat!! I did indeed get my wallet back. The person who found it was very honest, and called people whose business cards or contact info was in my wallet. Very smart – it worked!

      Thanks so much. 🙂

Hey! I just discovered your blog! I am also an American expat (and teacher) blogging about my experience in Istanbul… It was fun to read your impressions of the city, and be reminded of the good, the bad and the ugly of adjusting to life in Istanbul… I look forward to following your posts!
